BASE KIDS ESSENTIALS

Vitamin A

Vitamin A supports healthy vision, immune function, and cell integrity. It comes in two forms: carotenoids from plant foods such as carrots, mangoes, and leafy greens, and preformed vitamin A from animal sources like liver, fish, eggs, and dairy. Gentle cooking methods such as steaming or roasting help preserve its levels.

Most children eating a variety of whole foods will meet their daily vitamin A needs through diet. However, selective eaters with very limited fruit, vegetable, or dairy intake may benefit from additional support.

For these children, EVERYDAY EXTRA BASE includes vitamin A to help fill the gap while healthy eating habits are developing.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C supports iron and copper absorption, stabilises folate, and plays a key role in immune health through its antioxidant properties and its role in collagen formation. It is found widely in fruits and vegetables such as blackcurrants, citrus, kiwi, guava, broccoli, and sprouts. Deficiency is relatively rare, but low intake of vitamin C may impair immune defences, slow growth, and, in severe cases, cause scurvy. Children with very limited fruit and vegetable intake may be at risk of subclinical deficiency.

Iron

Iron comes in two dietary forms: haem iron, found in red meat, lamb, and pork and easily absorbed, and non-haem iron, found in eggs, pulses, fortified cereals, and vegetables, which is better absorbed when paired with vitamin C-rich foods like strawberries, tomatoes, or kiwi. Iron deficiency is common in young children and may cause fatigue, anaemia, developmental delays, and lowered immunity. Risk factors include diets high in milk or processed foods.

To support healthy intake, BASE supplements contain highly bioavailable iron (ferrous bisglycinate) at safe levels for children likely meeting their needs through diet. For selective eaters who may not consume enough iron from meat, fruit, or vegetables, Everyday EXTRA BASE includes additional iron. Children diagnosed with iron deficiency on blood tests, however, will require medical advice for targeted iron therapy beyond food supplements.

B Vitamins

B vitamins are essential for metabolism, energy production, brain function, and cell growth. They aren’t stored in the body for long and must be consumed regularly through the diet in foods such as dairy, eggs, meat, and leafy green vegetables. BASE formulations contain vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, and B12.
